It is with the deepest regret that we have received the sad news of Phil Cowie’s passing peacefully, at home on August 29, 2006, at the age of 43. He remains the loving husband of Joy (nee Steele) and devoted father of Philip.. As many of you know Phil was first diagnosed with cancer more than 14 years ago. However, he never once let that get him down or prevent him from living life to the fullest. I know that he thoroughly enjoyed his time playing with the D-K RFC. Although his rugby playing days were behind him when he, Joy and Philip left England, after about a year we convinced him to take up ice hockey, which he had not played since boyhood. Being the fierce competitor that he was, he quickly reacquainted himself with the game. Although a “non-contact” league, Phil somehow managed to get in plenty of contact. I suspect that hockey, especially the physical aspects, somehow eased the ache he felt after retiring from rugby, his true passion. He will be missed.
